Tips for Great Gift Wrapping

We find that there are two schools of thought when it comes to wrapping a gift. Here are some tips that might help you no matter which you fall into!

Quick and easy but still looks great.

If you are one of these people, you most likely will use gift bags the majority of the time you wrap. Gift bags became the hot new packaging item in the late 1970ís. All the giftwrap manufacturers predicted they would prove to be a passing fad, but they are still the most popular way to wrap a gift even twenty-five years later! Design gift bags with colorful tissue paper most times donít even need a bow or ribbons to look perfect. A solid color gift bag with printed tissue paper can be equally as beautiful when accented with a few strands of curling ribbon.

This type of packaging appeals to those of us who find ourselves shopping for a gift literally minutes before the party! It can be put together quickly and easily! We recommend keeping a few bags on hand with tissue that coordinates. It is easy to mix and match colors. Buy some basic colors of curling ribbon or raffia that will tie your bag and tissue colors together. You might be surprised how stunning solid colors are when coordinated properly. For weddings and baby gifts, a tone on tone look is very beautiful. Having a small stash of wrapping supplies at home will simplify the process!

Every giftwrap is a unique creation.

If you are one of these people your creation usually follows a theme with the idea that the entire gift is something specialÖnot just whatís inside the box! For this approach, you must go beyond just the gift wrap or bag and bow. Be creative! Choose a bag or gift wrap pattern that ties in with the theme of the party. If your child is attending a party at the zoo, choose an animal print and make a colorful tag in an animal shape.

If you are going to an Over the Hill party, choose a pattern with an Over the Hill theme and tie some black balloons filled with helium to the package. Children love getting gifts that have a unique trinket or some candy attached to the outside of the package. Hot glue candies to a wooden stick and tie colorful strands of curling ribbon to the bottom. Then tie the candy stick into the bow on the top of your gift.

Using natural items is a very nice touch to any gift. Dried flowers or eucalyptus make a beautiful adornment on a kraft bag or a gift wrapped in a natural paper. Use raffia with this to add soft colors for the perfect touch. Mistletoe and holly are nice to use at Christmas time on any package. If itís a glitzy look you are after, metallic bags, metallic shreds and metallic sheets are the way to go. Add onion grass sprays or wire garland to the package for added sparkle. They are both made from bendable wire and are very easy to work with.
